Must do and see in Villemomble

Villemomble is a town located in the French department of Seine-Saint-Denis and the Ile-de-France region. It is located only seven and a half miles from the center of Paris and it belongs to its eastern suburbs.

1. Château de Villemomble

Château de Villemomble

The castle of Villemomble in the Middle Ages was a small castle with turrets, surrounded by ditches and accessed by a drawbridge. Today, on this location is a Renaissance era castle. This castle was a particular favorite of King François I. who always stopped here. It is surrounded by a lovely forest.

3. Église Notre-Dame-d’Espérance

Église Notre-Dame-d’Espérance

Église Notre-Dame-d’Espérance has been built since 1929 till 1933. The building has the distinction of having a single nave ended with the choir to one of its ends and a theater stage on the other side. Curtain separating these two distinct parts allows duplication of the room.

5. Old institution Sainte-Marie

Old institution Sainte-Marie

The building is dating from the end of the nineteenth century. It was established as religious school run by the Sisters of the Holy Child Jesus de Soissons. Later, it is converted into Remembrance orphanage. Since 1926, the St. Louis private school is located in this elegant building.

Église Saint-Louis (Chruch of St. Louis) was built at the end of nineteenth century. It was built on the location of an old Jesuit style church that was destroyed in seventeenth century. The building was designed in the style of Roman basilicas. In 1954, the choir was completely rebuilt, metallic architecture was hidden by a canopy and frescoes were brightened. At the initiative of Father Bernard Klein, parish priest of St. Louis from 1923, the church got tower. This toer was designed by architect Paul Tournon and it is one of the major pieces of the Sacred Art of that time. The tower is fifty-six meters high.

4. Georges Brassens theater

Georges Brassens theater

Theater Georges Brassens was built at the begininng of nineteenth century. Georges Brassens Theater entertains regular shows and concerts and also serves as a room for meetings or exhibitions. Renovated in 1982, the building still retains its original architecture with its semicircular pediment and cornice and frieze.

This town has twenty eight thousand and five hundred citizens. Villemomble is a popular tourist location in this area.
