What to do and see in Tomar

Tomar is a small town in central Portugal.The city was founded at the end of the twelfth century by the Knights Templar and is full of historical monuments from that period.

The castle was declared part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983 due to its importance. This monastery is one of the most prestigious monuments in Portugal. This magnificent building is known for its unique blend of architectural styles. Adding different objects over the centuries has led to a mixture of Manueline style, gothic touch, Moorish influences and a certain amount of Corinthian and Tuscan columns. The monastery was converted into barracks Napoleon's troops in 1810.
