Things to do and see in Suhl

Suhl is a city in Thuringia, Germany, placed fifty kilometers near Erfurt. It is also surrounded with Würzburg and Nuremberg. It has 35,000 occupants, andit is small urban area inside Thuringia. Suhl structures the biggest urban zone in the Thuringian Forest.

1. The Suhler Boys Choir

The Suhler Boys Choir

The Suhler Boys Choir is a company based in Suhl. It was founded in 1972 by Hubert Voigt and it is very popular in Germany but in rest of the world too. Concert tours have taken the choir in many cities of Europe and even Japan. The choir has participated in many international concerts and they got several prizes. You can hear them in a cappella and oratorium versions. The Suhler Boys Choir work with Philharmonie Gotha.

3. The Congress Centrum Suhl

The Congress Centrum Suhl

The Congress Centrum Suhl was built as the town hall of friendship forty years ago. It was a home of Centrum department store of the former district capital. After the dissolution, larger parts of the town hall were demolished. Car museum was opened in this hall seven years ago. It has exhibition area with bicycles, motorcycles, and cars. There are exhibitions on the racing history of the Suhl Bikes.

Cemetery chapel "Holy Cross" is located next to the main church. It was built by King Hofer Maurer Johann Michael Schmidt. The construction financed exclusively Suhler citizens. In 1739, Cross Church was departed between two city gates.

2. The Suhl Weapons Museum

The Suhl Weapons Museum presents the technical development of handguns in the history of Suhl. It is located in the middle of the city of Suhl. It is one of the most important specialized museums in Germany. Another house was built because of the fire hazard. After the loss of the right to brewery, building was renovated forty years ago. the building is used as a municipal museum weapons.

4. The Evangelical Lutheran Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Mary was built as the oldest church in the city more than five hundred years ago. It is also referred to as the main church in Suhl. Church was a part of parish Schmalkalden. When construction of St. Mary's Church begun, workers knew it would take several years to finish it. In 1590, church burned down as same as in the Thirty Years' War. But, it was renovated later.

Suhl was coal mining town, and industry center in late nineteenth century. It has very high mountains around it that offer spectacular view.
