Must do and see in Sacavem

Sacavem is a small town with 18,000 inhabitants on the coast of Portugal. The city is located just a few kilometers northeast of the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. It is positioned on the coast and has a very pleasant climate, the city is a popular destination as a summer resort. In addition, many visitors to Lisbon it also selected as the site for accommodating the price and avoid the crowds. Sacavem has plenty of interesting places to visit.

1. Monastery of the Virgin Martyr (Convento de Nossa Senhora dos Mártires e da Conceição dos Milagres)

This monastery was built on the ruins of an old chapel dedicated to the Virgin Martyrs. The monastery was built in 1578 by order of King Sebastian in honor of those killed in the battle at this place. Since 1877th The building is owned by the Ministry of Defence. The building is now part of the cultural heritage of Portugal and protected by the state. Interior of the building is covered with beautiful and well-preserved plates featuring the sixteenth century. Exceptionally well-preserved walls of the monastery of the XVII and XVIII century with exceptional artistic and cultural value.

3. Bridge Vasco da Gama (Vasco da Gama)

Vasco da Gama Bridge stretches across the river Tejo. With its length of 17.3 km, this bridge is the longest bridge in Europe. The bridge is a beautiful view of the confluence of the River Tagus. This bridge is one of the tallest buildings in Portugal with a height of 155 meters.

5. Estate Sao Jose (Quinta de São José)

Estate Sao Jose (Quinta de São José)

This building is the only surviving farmer's house in the past. It was built in the seventeenth century and was originally owned by the Duke of Braganca. Farm size is three acres and has living quarters, garden arches, barn, stables and a fountain.

2. Park Trejo and Trancão (Parque do Tejo e to Trancão)

Park Trejo and Trancão (Parque do Tejo e to Trancão)

This park is a very nice landscaped garden which is located in the eastern part of Sacavema. Park was created as part of preparations for the International Exhibition of 1998 and includes green area bordered by the rivers Tagus Trancão the east and the north. The park covers an area of 90 hectares and is a true oasis of peace and rest. Part of the park along the river Tejo is a separate wetland ecosystem with many species of plants and birds typical of this area.

4. Fort Sacavem (Forte de Sacavém)

Fort Sacavem (Forte de Sacavém)

Sacavem fortress was built in 1872 as part of the line established for the defense of Lisbon. Fortress is perfectly preserved, its appearance is blended into the surrounding vegetation so it is almost invisible from the air. Since 1998 the building was listed as protected by the General Directorate for the Protection of buildings and monuments.

Sacavem is very well known resort of the inhabitants of Lisbon for the National Park and its very pleasant climate.
