What to do and see in Rockhampton

1. Capricorn Caves

Now we take you into the Earth! Capricorn Caves have originated 390 million years ago but today they are one of the nicest attractions of the city. You have two tours that can be enjoyed, one lasts an hours and the ticket is 27 dollars for adults, and the other lasts 2 hours, the ticket is 60 dollars. Both tours are with experienced guides. Among caves there is one especially attractive, called The Cathedral Cave, where small weddings and underground opera are sometimes held.

3. Mount Morgan

It is about 38 km South West of Rockhampton and it was one of the richest gold mines in Australia. Today there are touristic tours that will show you the mine that gave about 225 tons of gold, 50 tons of silver and also huge amounts of copper. Besides the mine, there are also recreational facilities in the area as well as the possibility of geocatching, very popular activity today.

5. Dreamtime Cultural Centre

Come here and dream! This is Aboriginal centre where you can relax and enjoy in Didgeridoo playing, Djarn Djarn dancers and also see and learn how to throw and return boomerang. The centre is located on 12 hectares of land with the big waterfall, native plants and trees. You can take guided tours or take a walk alone through the centre. Opening hours are 10 am to 3,30 and it doesn't work on the weekend. Ticket for adult person is 14 dollars and for a kid 6,50 dollars.

2. Nissan Nevara Arena

We have one warning for you here - pay attention to your kids since they want to become cowboys after visiting this site! This is one of the largest indoor arenas in Australia and here you can see professional bull riders showing their talents. Kids can go to school of riding and learn how to do it in controlled and safe environment. Kids as young as 4 can attend it! During the year there are many rodeo shows so come and feel the adrenaline rush.

4. Rockhampton Art Gallery

Rockhampton Art Gallery

This rich gallery has collection of more than 1,700 objects including central Queensland artifacts and art, Australian art from the 19th century as well as Japanese and British art. There are several permanent exhibitions and also periodical exhibitions of works by Australian and international artists. You can visit gallery shop and everything you buy supports the Art Gallery and the working hours are from 10 am to 4 pm every day.
