1. The Arsenal of Rochefort
From the Colbert place, through the street of the Republic and Charles de Gaulle avenue visitors will come to the entry of the arsenal. The doors of the Arsenal are a monumental door in the shape of the triumphal arch. The arsenal was built in the middle of the seventeenth century and was operating until its closing in 1926. The Royal Rope manufacture is located in the middle of the arsenal. It is remarkably restored 374 meters long building. It was built in the second half of the seventeenth century on squaring of oak beams because of the marshy ground. This building is a testimony of the industrial architecture of the seventeenth century. Inside, visitors are also impressed by the immense room adapted to dimensions of the ropes to make. The tools and the machines and processes and manufacturing methods are presented in a very accessible way. Animated scenes from the life on board vessels from that time supplement this interesting visit.
4. Conservatoire du Bégonia
The Conservatoire du Bégonia is a botanical garden with size of one thousand square meters specializing in begonias. It is located in rue Charles Plumier and it was established in 1988. The garden contains over 500 species and it is the world's largest begonia collection.
