Things to see in Quebec City

Welcome to the one of the oldest European settlements in the whole North America. Things to do in Quebec City are interesting to explore.

1. Old Quebec

This is the historic part and it was founded in 1608. The part of the city is walled with ramparts and that makes this city the only remaining walled city in North America, north of Mexico. The old city contains many old buildings and also historic church. It is particularly interesting that even 11 architectural styles have been identified here, from the 17th century to modern times, most of them are French and British styles and some old buildings in the Old Quebec are as the same as in those countries.

3. Terrasse Dufferin

From this place in Quebec City you can see panoramic views on the old part of town and also St. Lawrence River. Also, from the mid December to the late March the toboggan is open and you can try it and feel the rush speeding up 90 km per hour to the bottom that is 152 meters away!

5. La promenade Samuel - De Champlain

La promenade Samuel - De Champlain

This is actually a large park on the banks of St. Lawrence River and it offers 2,5 km walk or bicycle tours. It has been renovated recently as a government gift to Quebec City for its 400th anniversary.

2. Lower Town

Lower Town

The French version would be Basse - Ville and this is actually the original location of the city, on the banks of the St Lawrence. It has the charm of the old world, buildings there are historical and like every of them has some story to be told. Tourists usually enjoy walks by the river and through the old streets. There are also many bars and restaurants, craft shops and bakeries.

4. Montmorency Falls Park

There are falls on Montmorency River that are even higher than legendary Niagara Falls. These falls are second most visited place in the Quebec region, right after the Old Quebec. There are many activities in the park, the newest is 'via ferrata' or 'iron roads', accessible for everybody over 12 years old and combines climbing and hiking. Over the weekend tourist have guided walks but there is also and opportunity to see a huge fall from the cable car!

Quebec City is settled on the river Saint Lawrence and in the language of the first people here it means 'where the river narrows'. Things to do in Quebec City are long list and the best part is - you can enjoy most of them for free.
