What to do in Pinhal Novo

Pinhal Novo is a town of 25,000 inhabitants. This is a very beautiful and interesting town, popular with tourists for its historical landmarks.

1. Palace Rio Frio ( Palácio de Rio Frio )

Palace Rio Frio ( Palácio de Rio Frio )

This building was built in 1909 Antonio dos Santos, Jorge who inherit this land from his uncle Jose Maria dos Santos. Palace astounds with its elegance and nobility of architectural design. Inside, it should be noted monumental space and valuables. It is believed that the palace, according to their appearance, is work place or Jose Ribeiro Raul Linoa. The building was converted into a guest house since 1992.

3. Pavilion (O Coreto )

This pavilion was built as a space for performance Philharmonic Orchestra Society Agricola Union - recreational community founded in 1896. Building is an interesting specimen of its kind. It is made on a base of marble and limestone with a roof and a fence made of finely wrought iron. The building is open for concerts from June 19 in 1927.

This exhibition consists of tools and accessories that belonged to the masters who are engaged in the processing of iron, which allows us to get to know the secrets of this traditional craft that has almost disappeared. The exhibition was staged at the Warehouse No. 8 and a visit has to be arranged with the city's museums .

2. The Church of St. Joseph

The Church of St. Joseph

Church of St. Joseph was founded in 1872 by José Maria dos Santos, a major landowner in the area, donated the land where the church is located. From the original chapel only architectural configuration of the central part. This church has undergone extensive renovations in 1989. Interior of the church is currently dominated by the beautiful decoration of the altar.

4. Train Station (A Estação )

This building which dates back to 1935. was replaced the old primitive cell in Pinhal Novo and now is the most important railway junction on the south bank of the River Tagus. From 1984, through this station was going about 80 trains a day. Special decoration of the station tiles, it was painted in 1938. Was from John Roberts, with ornaments F.Branca , of produced by Maria Battistini from Portugal. Within the station is a large water tower that was intended to supply steam locomotives. The Pinhal Novo station once there were two, but one was accidentally dismantled and destroyed. Today, it is transformed into a museum exhibit telling the story of the importance of railways for the emergence and development of Pinhal Novo .
