In the 19th century, at this point layed the little Indian village. Now, in the heart of the Amazon, lies one of the largest cities of Brazil, Manaus!

1. Manaus Mercado Municipal

Manaus Mercado Municipal was built in 1880, modeled on the French Les Halles, which is located in Paris, which at that time was a feature of modern construction. The mouth of the river Rio Negro and Rio Solimões, barely 10 kilometers from Manaus, is a popular tourist destination, because in this place the river Amazon was officially "created" and because of the unbelievable mix of two rivers. Rio Negro's dark waters with a high degree of acidity on the one side, while the Rio Solimões - called "white" river with a high degree of sludge and a neutral pH value on the other. It is interesting that these two rivers do not interfere immediately but 10 km downstream. This is truly a remarkable sight!

Museu do Indio de Manaus is a small museum that was built by the religious community of Salesians who has been working with the Indian population. The museum contains a fine collection of everyday objects from different ethic groups (masks, pottery, tools, etc).

2. Second Teatro Amazonas

Teatro Amazonas is built as a replica of the French building "Opera Garnier" which is located in Paris. When renovated in 1896, this theater has become a symbol of the city, very visible , with a pink facade and dome composed of 36,000 painted tiles representing the flag of Brazil. Every year around April or May, this theater of opera and organizes large festivals and Amazon symphony playing every week. Glossy interior and energy in this area will take your breath away!

4. Porto de Manaus

As with any city on the water you have to go to the harbor to see the true spirit of the city , so he and Manaus . It has a feature to adjust the water level variation that can be diversivebetween the rainy and dry season. Harbor was built by the British in 1903.The port is not too big but every space in it is very helpful and thoughtful. Take time to observe the comings and goings of brightly colored boats.

Although the city considered as a starting point and a great Amazon forest, you must also visit a theater, or just to walk, try the local specialties and enjoy the sociable ambience and will realize how much this concrete jungle is a great place for vacation!
