What to do and see in Macon

Macon is the town in eastern France and it is the prefecture of Saona and Loara department. It is a rather small town with the population of about 35000 citizens. Macon is located in Bourgogne region.

1. Hameau du Vin

The town is in the large agriculture area that is famous in the whole world by its vines. You can find vine cellars across the whole town. If you want to enjoy the taste of the famous Beaujolais wine, you should visit Hameau du Vin. It is a superb wine park unique in France with twenty five exhibition halls.

3. Ursulines Museum and Lamartine Museum

This town has many museums and archeological sites and that is the reason why it attracts a lot of tourists every year. The best known museums are Ursulines museum and Lamartine museum. Ursulines museum is located in an old convent which is built in the XVIIth century and it has a great archeology and ethnology collection from this area. Lamartine museum is dedicated to the life of great poet Alphonse de Lamartine who lived in the XVIIIth century. This museum is located in the old aristocrate house called Hotel Senece.

Near the town, visitors may find famouse Aze caves. That is the interesting place with two caves and underground river. This two caves is far interesting than similar caves in the world in many ways. It has a stylish look, more mistery into it, superior and convenient arrangement. Because of this two caves, you will feel like you are entering the center of the earth.

The town is located on the north bank of the river Saone and it has a very nice promenade along the port. Promenade is starting from the city centre to 'Parc Nord' and it is a great area for relaxation.

4. The castle of Berzé-le-Châtel

The castle of Berzé-le-Châtel is the magnificent fortress that is visible from the road. It has a great view on the whole valley. It was built into the bedrock, with its own quirky prison and with a host of medieval features this place should not be bypassed in this area. In the center of the Macon you can find a very well preserved Saint Vincent cathedral. It was built in XVIIIth century.

Macon is exceptional tourist destination with nice features and lots of things to do. It also has a quality acommodations . Even if you try hard, you will fail to find some downside of this area.
