1. Orchid Display House
This site was established in 1870 and is displayed in 11 hectare park. This is green oasis with tropical trees and astonishing lawns. You can take calming walk, for example along the avenue of palms or you can simply make a picnic under a fig tree. Admission is free an opening hours from Monday to Friday 10 - 11 am and 1 - 3 pm, Sunday 10 am - 2 pm and the Orchid House is closed on Saturdays and public holidays.
3. Artspace Mackay
The building was open in 2002 and since then has received many of rewords both for architecture and community service. It offers many exhibitions of social history and visual arts but also multi purpose venues for meetings, seminars and other events. It is very interesting that admission for this cultural site is free. On Mondays it is closed, from Tuesday to Friday opening hours are 10 am to 5 pm and on the weekends it is from 10 am to 3 pm.
5. Jungle Johno Eco Tours
If you are for little adventure, then this tour is something perfect. In the company of experienced guide join the jungle bus for a safari in the rainforest. Tourists who have already joined the tour are more than thrilled, so take the risk and start the journey. You will also meet butterflies and parrots and get the chance to swim under crystal waterfalls and reconnect with the mother nature. Along the river you will meet turtles, water dragons and many other animals. Tours are different and arranged by the tourist's preferences, and the ticket prices depend of the length of the tour.
2. Bluewater Lagoon
Mackay Bluewater Lagoon is safe and fun destination for the whole family, especially the kids. It features three age appropriate pools and are also patrolled by lifeguards all the time. Besides the water park and water slides, the place offers picnic and BBQ facilities. It is open every day from 9 am to 5,45 pm, lagoon areas are up to 1,8 meters depth and the water slide has 19,5 meters. The place provides elderly and disabled access and also children's water playground.
4. Bluewater Trail
There are 6 important sites along The Bluewater Trail, amongst them Catherine Freeman walk, Botanic Gardens, Iluka Park, Bluewater Quay Public Open Space. This is collaborative project and there is also one part of the trail that should be completed soon. This is place for the whole families and everybody can choose from their preferences, like walking, biking, sightseeing or art galleries visiting.
The climate in Mackay is subtropical and tropical so be prepared to heat. Things to do in Mackay are hot stuff and will convince you to come again.
