Things to do and see in Lievin

Lievin is the town in the Pas-de-Calais department in the northern France. It is located on the banks of river Souchez in the central area of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. Lievin is the small and peaceful town. It occupies an area of five square miles and it has the population of thirty three thousand people. That is not much, but these people are very friendly, especially for strangers and tourists from all over the world.

1. Coal mine

Last coal mine in Lievin was shut down in 1974. Some of the coal mines from the golden era of Lievein are opened for visitors. It is interesting to visit these underground places and feel the sense of how difficult was to work down there. After this, you will enjoy your regular job and appreciate coal miners even more.

3. Riaumont

This town was ruined to the ground in both world wars. However, it was rebuilt and today it is small modern industrial town. The first settlement in this area was established very early. Riaumont is the highest point in this area. Its foothill is a very rich archaeological site. There, you may find the traces of Neolithic and Roman times. On this place was also found the traces of seven hundred and fifty two tombs. That was the proof that this area was once a large burial ground.
