What to do and see in Lens

Lens is the town in northern France. It is located in pas-de-Calais department in North-Pass-de-Calais region. It has a population of thirty six thousand people. Until the 1659 this town was a part of Spanish Netherlands.

1. Louvre museum

If you want a reason to visit this town, it is enough to say that it has a Louvre museum that is the part of world known Musee du Louvre. It was established in 2003 because French minister of culture orders the Musee du Louvre to move a part of their exhibition to some smaller town. The Louvre from Lens got their object from Musee du Louvre and each year some parts of the exhibition are changed. La Galerie du temps is the main exhibit space in the museum. It is one hundred and twenty meters long and has an area of three thousand square meters. This space is divided into two major parts: the Gallery and an extra exhibit under the name the Glass Pavilion. These two spaces are dedicated to the permanent exhibition. The whole art pieces in the museum are organized chronologically (from Antiquity, through the Middle Ages, till the Modern Age).

3. British Military Cemetery Dud Corner

Because this area was a location of some of the biggest battles from World War One, there is one more memorial cemetery here. That is British Military Cemetery Dud Corner. You can see places where soldiers gave their lives for the sake of ordinary people, and for the sake of country itself.
