What to do and see in Le Kremlin-bicêtre

Le Kremlin-bicêtre with its twenty six thousand inhabitants is among of the smaller towns in the department Val de Marne. It is located in the southern suburbs of Paris. It is only 4,5 kilometers distant from the center of the Paris and 11 kilometers distant from Orly Airport.

1. Hôpital de Bicêtre

Hôpital de Bicêtre (General Hospital) has been built partially during the period of two centuries, from the first part of the seventeenth century till the middle of the nineteenth century. The whole building is very impressive, but the entrance gatehouse has its own history. It was built in 1757 on the directives of Charles Trudaines (Director of Highways). The gate is composed of two heavy wooden doors with the imposing door knocker.

The Town hall was built at the beginning of nineteenth century. The building has a monumental façade topped by campanile zinc and lead adorned with a clock. The interior walls of the city were built with artificial iron frame to ensure its stability. It is full of the decorative motifs. The vestibule, supported by four columns, has a straight staircase that is leading to first floor, while two small staircases on either side are leading to the mezzanine

5. Chapelle

This octagonal building near the hospital was first used as an armory. It has been converted into a chapel in 1920.

2. Fort

Fort

The building of Fort of Kremlin Bicetre started at 1840. The Fort was completely finished and operational at 1845. In 1851, opponents of the coup were imprisoned in the fortress. It also had its role during the War of 1870. This fortress was built as the part of the military fortifications that were surrounding the capital in that period.

After the construction of the new gatehouse to the east, the site formerly located at the main hospital entrance was occupied by gardens and a cemetery. Its architecture reflects the neo-Gothic taste which was popular in nineteenth century.

That makes this town a great choice for a staying location, either you are on a business trip or you are just a regular tourist.
