What to see in Freital

Freital is a city located in Saxony, around nine kilometers southwest of Dresden. This is one of the biggest city in the region of Saxon. and second biggest city in the Province of Dresden. In this area, you can explore new and rare things. Things to see in Freital are:

1. Burgk Castle

Burgk Castle

The Burgk Castle is a previous home of many German royalties. Today it houses the town historical center. The stronghold is found near the mountain on the edge of Döhlener forest. This is probably not best place for small children, so if you have one or two, you better visit it by yourself.

3. St. Joachim Catholic Church

St. Joachim Catholic Church

Catholic Church is devoted to St. Joachim and it was build in 19th century. The cross was erected and it symbolises religious community Marienthal in Ostritz. The statue is a copy of the "Madonna and Child" by Tilman Riemenschneider. Freital is religious town and there are so many churches and castles around.

5. Segen-Gottes-Schacht

Segen-Gottes-Schacht

This museum is devoted to two hundred and seventy six miners who died in explosion in 1869. Only five people survived. Sandstone obelisk was erected as a monument to the mass grave in memory of the victims. Names can be red on sandsone carvings.

2. King Albert Memorial (Freital)

King Albert Memorial (Freital)

King Albert Memorial is a ten feet high monolith made of sand stone on the mountain wind in Freital and it is one of favorite spots for tourists. The landmark is above ocean level. Döhlen Basin can be seen from around here. In the evening, the King Albert Memorial is enlightened. This is magnificent view.

4. Weißeritztalbahn

Weißeritztalbahn

The Weißeritztalbahn is the second Saxon railway and the most popular public narrow gauge railway in Germany. The route goes from Freital to Eastern Ore Mountains. The track was heavily damaged during the flood. A first rail project was presented in 1865. The track was later built at west in the valley of the Freiberger Mulde.

Freital offers so much - art galleries, mining, wine tasting - all encompassed by wonderful field near Dresden. Transport connections are excellent and you can visit near by areas easily.
