1. Burnaby Mountain Park

People there also call it The Playground of the Gods. It is settled on Burnaby Mountain and it is also home to about 50 totem poles, but they are not made by native people, but carved by two Japanese artists that are actually members of Ainu culture, first inhabitants in Japan. The totems actually honor the ties between two sister towns, Canadian Burnaby and Japanese Kushiro. The park also offers hiking tracks, picnic areas and great views on the area, and it is just 20 minutes away from the city.

3. Burnaby Village Museum

Burnaby Village Museum

This is the place where you can discover (and show to your kids) how it felt like living in the past, with no electricity, cell phones or computers. Streets are like out of 1920s community and the specialty of the village museum are two large artifacts that are over hundred years old - restored tram from the 1912 and a CW Parker Carousel from the same year. People dressed as in the period welcomes the visitors and you can also learn many facts from the era. The best news - all is free!

5. SFU Museum of Archeology & Ethnology

SFU Museum of Archeology & Ethnology

Exhibits in the museum shows ethnology and archeology around the world but focused on British Columbia, especially cedar sculptures. It also gives excellent representation of First Nation throughout sculptures, paintings, carvings, cooking and everything. Admission by donation.

2. Central Park

Central Park

The park is the great place for meditation and many other activities, or just enjoying the peace out there. It offers 8,5 km of trails for walking and biking plus recreational facilities. The park is huge and it is settled in the middle of the city. There is also outdoor swimming pool that can be used in summer period, and two ponds that are very scenic. It takes about 30 minutes to walk around the whole park. You will also meet many squirrels that will approach you hoping to feed them.

4. Ceperley House

Ceperley House

The house serves as exhibition hall but it also offers the food. The house is on the lake so it offers memorable experience. Public programs and exhibitions are by donation.
