Things to see in Bexhill-on-Sea

Bexhill-on-Sea is a town in the province of East Sussex, inside the old region of Sussex, in the south of England. It is located inside the District of Rother. It has a populace of forty thousand. The Anglo-Saxon name for the settlement was Bexelei.

1. De La Warr Pavilion

De La Warr Pavilion

De La Warr Pavilion is an International Style building built in 1935 and imagined by Erich Mendelsohn and Serge Chermayeff. It was built in Art Deco style. It is one of the first real modernist open building in Britain. For every art fan out there, this is a must see if you every come to Bexhill. The new building was the consequence of a compositional rivalry started by the Herbrand Sackville, ninth Earl De La Warr, after whom the building was named. The ninth Earl create this site as an open building. The opposition was advertised in the Architects Journal in 1934. It had a restaurant and a bar for more than thousand people.

The A259 is a street on the south shoreline of England, and Bexhill is well known for this street. It was named the most risky street in South East England. It is very notorious, and if you want to ride or drive through this street, you better be careful.

2. High Woods

High Woods

High Woods is a natural Site of Special Scientific Interest in Bexhill, and it was formed by Wildlife and Countryside Act in 1981. The site is natural habitat for sessile oak coppice Quercus petraea, and it cannot be found elsewhere. This is a place where you can hide and escape from your problems. The site is located north west of Bexhill.

4. Bexhill United F.C.

Bexhill United F.C. is soccer club situated in Bexhill-on-Sea and it is associated to the Sussex County Association. They are presently parts of the Sussex County League Division Two. The club initially entered the Sussex County League in the twenties and were called Allen West. At the end of the 1926, club transformed its name to Bexhill. After the war the club changed their name again this time to Bexhill Town Athletic. It is not successful, but you visit its stadium to feel real soccer spirit.

Bexhill is interesting town with interesting story. Feel free to visit it any time of the year.
