What to do and see in Bataszek

Bataszek is a small town in southern Hungary, in the county of Tolna. It is only 60 kilometers east of Pecs. The city is a popular tourist destination due to various historical monuments that are located in this area.

1. Forest Gemenc (Gemenci erdő)

These forests are a real nature reserve. Within the reserve there is a house with a presentation and graphics data on reserves and more towers for viewing environments. The most popular types of animals that live in this area are eagle with white tiles (haliaetus albicilla), black stork (Ciconia nigra), red deer (Cervus elaphus) and wild boar (Sus scrofa). This area is one of the most important hunting areas throughout Hungary. As regards fauna, this area has the most white willow (Salix alba), poplar (Populus nigra), summer snowflake (Leucojum aestivum), Siberian iris (Iris sibirica) and European white water lily (Nymphea alba).

Turre Istvan was born in 1825. He was only 16 years old when, as a soldier of the Habsburg monarchy in Lombardy, he joined the Italian revolution. He has a legion of Hungary and fought with Garibaldi. After the settlement from 1867., He returned to Hungary. All his life was devoted to the cultural and economic development of his country. He was also one of the initiators of the construction of the Panama and the Corinth Canal. His monument stands at the place where Sugovica flows into the Danube. This location offers visitors a magnificent view of the South Bridge and the area Gemenc.

5. Monument Lazar Meszaros (Lázár Mészáros tiszteletbeli emlékmű)

On the side of the chapel in the cemetery, stands the grave of the first war minister of the first independent Hungarian Government, Lazarus Mészáros. His remains were moved to this tomb in 1991.

Farm Bogar is a museum with local history collection. Ethnicity private collections in the farm reflects the lifestyle of the people in this area. The collection consists of authentic specimens of furniture, tools and clothes. Owner takes tourists on a tour and explains history of this area. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn local songs and try out traditional costumes of the region.

4. Monument to the heroes of World War II (Emlékmű a Hősök világháború)

Monument to the heroes of World War II (Emlékmű a Hősök világháború)

The monument is 23 meters high. The square base of the monument is made of reinforced concrete covered with a stone and ornament sword.

Thanks to the Reserve Gemenc, this is one of the most popular destinations for hunting tourism in Hungary.
