Things to do and see in Santa Iria da Azóia

Santa Iria da Azóia a small coastal town in Portugal close to Lisbon. About the nature of this place is very nice and the place has a lot of interesting tourist sites.

1. The main church (Igreja Matriz)

The main church (Igreja Matriz)

This church was built in the second half of the eighteenth century. The interior of the church is decorated with tiled panel depicting the life of St. Peter. The altar of the panel plate with the legend of Santa Iria. There are two altars with rich baroque carvings. The most valuable artifact in the church is a painting from the second half of the sixteenth century in which the article is been presented to the martyrdom of San Lorenzo.

3. Cventa Valley Farm (Quinta de Vale Flor)

This building was built in the second half of the eighteenth century. The farm was founded by Jorge Barros. The building is characterized by its architectural splendor. There are two towers with cupolas on the main facade. On the plateau, there are still some traces of the doors and windows of the sixteenth century.

This place is the oldest tree in Portugal. It was a wild olive tree 2850 years old. The scope of this olive tree in the grounds measure 10:15 meters, height is 4.40 meters and reaches a diameter of 7.60 crowns to 8:40 meters.

The exact date of construction of this castle. It is a very a biting architectural building with two towers with cupolas. It is assumed that the castle was the residence of the ruler of Castelo Branco. The earliest documents that mention this castle dating back to 1649. This established home is one of the best examples of medieval civil architecture. 1939 was annexed chapel. The building was renovated several times during the second half of the seventeenth century. This building is clearly visible from the highway section in the North of Lisbon.

4. Pirescoke Monastery (Convento de Pirescoxe)

Pirescoke Monastery (Convento de Pirescoxe)

Monastery of the Virgin is also known as the Monastery Pirescoke, because it is in the village Pirescoke, in the parish of Santa Iria Azóia. The monastery was founded in 1584 under the auspices of Bishop Anthony Castelo Branco, administrators Morgado de Castelo Branco. He founded the monastery with 18 monks. With the extinction of religious orders, in 1834 the monastery was sold at public auction and is now privately owned.

This little place is one of the favorite tourist destinations inhabitants of Lisbon.
