Orange is a small French town that is located in Vaucluse department in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. This town has little more than thirty thousand inhabitants. Orange is located twenty one kilometers north of Avignon.

L'arc d'Orange

L'arc d'Orange (Triumph Arch) was built at the beginning of the first century (between 30 BC and 20 AD). It was built to celebrate the victory over the Cimbri and the Teutons by the Romans. It is located at the entrance of the city and looks towards Lyon, along the old Via Agrippa. The Arch was restored between 1825 and 1829 by the architect of Historical Monuments, Auguste Caristie. The final cleaning was completed in 2009. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This arc is present for more than 21 centuries, and it is a strong story and great representative of the power of the Roman Empire.

Ancien théâtre romain (The Old Roman Theatre) is a very beautiful monument and wonderfully preserved. It was declared as the World Heritage Site in 1981. The Notre-Dame-de-Nazareth Cathedral , is an ancient Roman Catholic cathedral . I t was the seat of the Diocese of Orange until 1801. Today it is reverted into a simple parish church. It was classified as historical monument in January 1921.

This town has a long history. It was built in Roman times by veterans of the Second legion. That is the reason why this town has many historical artifacts and monuments. Because of this, Orange is very popular among tourist.
