Must do and see in La Garde

La Garde is located in Yvelines department in the Île-de-France region. This town has twenty nine thousand and eight hundred inhabitants. La Garde is part of the western suburbs of Paris and it is only sixteen and a half miles away from its center.

3. Le château-fort de Sainte-Marguerite

Pons de Fos, lord of La Garde, built in the eleventh century a castle in St. Marguerite. La Fos family remained its owner until 1212. This castle had a turbulent history. In September 1793, the fort was occupied by the republican troops of General Lapoype. Its guns helped Romulus to escape the pursuit of English ships in February, 1814. Free French Forces fought fierce battles around the fort for the liberation of Toulon.

5. L'ancienne église Notre-Dame

L'ancienne église Notre-Dame

Built in Romanesque transition style, the former Notre Dame fit perfectly in the defensive system of the village. This old parish church of Notre-Dame was used as burial place of the lords of La Garde. It was enlarged in 1480 by the Saint John the Baptist. The church was completely destroyed in 1793 during the siege of Toulon. It was restored from 1983 to 1989 and saved again by the population of the municipality.

2. Le château du Clos (Castle Clos)

Le château du Clos (Castle Clos)

Formerly the property of the lords of the Guard, the Château du Clos was known as the Castle Samson. It was sold by the Baron de La Garde Peter Toucas in 1751. The main building is flanked by four towers. It has been redesigned several times. The castle was occupied in 1948 by the Women's Learning Centre.

4. La chapelle de Sainte-Marguerite

La chapelle de Sainte-Marguerite

La chapelle de Sainte-Marguerite (The chapel of Sainte-Marguerite) was built in the first half of the seventeenth century, and restored in 1775. The chapel of St. Margaret was a parish church before it was sold as national property in 1798. It was rebuilt as a chapel of Bon Secours in 1868. Laetitia Bonaparte, mother of the future emperor used it for praying.

This town has so much to offer. This town was built in the time of the Roman Empire. La Garde is excellent location to rest your mind.
