What to do and see in Halifax

Welcome to the capital of the province of Nova Scotia in Canada. Things to do in Halifax are numerous and here are five attractions by editors choice.

1. Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo

This is week long event, kind of festival where you can enjoy different shows and educational work shops. The most special part of the festival is daily two and a half hour show that is packed with world class entertainment that will delight the whole family. Every scene lasts from three to six minutes and there is always something new to experience and see. So, you can see high land dancers, acrobatic acts, trampoline routines, modern music and so on. It is usually held in July and it's the largest annual indoor show in the world.

3. Point Pleasant Park

This park is for all and for all seasons. Here you can meet the ocean and forest through many walking paths, roads and trails. You can enjoy historic landscape but also romantic ruins. Here you can go walking, do the dog walk, run or even take cultural walking tour. There is also an event called Shakespeare by the Sea, it is held in summer and you can enjoy this famous author and his works on open space.

5. Maritime Museum of the Atlantic

The museum has the rich collection of artifacts, from buoys and binnacles to armaments to anchors. Working hours on Tuesday from 9,30 am to 8 pm, Wednesday to Saturday 9,30 am to 5 pm, Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm, closed on Mondays.

2. Halifax Public Gardens

The gardens are open daily from 8 am to the dusk is season April to November and it is subject to weather conditions. They were open in 1875 and Victorian inspired. Actually they are the finest surviving examples of this ear gardens in the whole North America. Besides plants there are number of statues, fountains and a band stand from Victorian era. During the summer period there are also number of concerts. The entrance to the gardens is free.

4. Halifax Citadel National Historic Site of Canada

Visit this 19th century fort and discover the little part of the Halifax history. In summer time the fort is brought to life with numerous shows and live performances. Here you can hear the crack of rifles and kids can participate in Xplorers Program. When the dark falls, experience The Ghost Walk. The site is open from 9 am to 5 pm and the rate is 3,15 dollars per visit.

The city is also recognized as a major port that is used by many shipping lines. Things to do in Halifax are historic and often connected to nature, therefor very enjoyable.
