What to do and see in Cavaillon

Cavaillon is a French town located in the department of Vaucluse and the area Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. This small town in south east France has twenty six thousand and three hundred inhabitants. It is an interesting location for visitors.

Cathédrale Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Véran de Cavaillon was a Roman Catholic cathedral. This cathedral is classified as a national monument of France and a part of French cultural heritage. This cathedral was the seat of the Bishop of Cavaillon until the French Revolution. It was added to the Diocese of Avignon by the Concordat at the beginning of the nineteenth century. It is an example of the remarkable architecture and décor ffom the eleventh century.

3. Saint-Jacques hill

Saint-Jacques Hill is a rocky limestone massif. Its surface is about three hundred hectares. Its geological and historical richness make it a place of great interest. On the north side are the ramparts from the second century B.C., of which certain remnants still remain. Saint-Jacques is especially known thanks to its seventh century chapel which was built to protect the village.

Hôtel de Ville, was rebuilt in the middle of the eighteenth century at the site of the old town house. It was enlarged at the end of the nineteenth century. Its attractiveness derives from a recently restored beautiful glass roof.

This is one of the several Jewish synagogues in this part of France. It was built in the seventeenth century by the pope permission. It contains complete Louis XV style furniture. This building was very important for the Jewish people. The complete life of the Jewish community in this area was organized around the synagogue.

4. Roman Arch

Roman Arch is located in the center of the Cavaillon. It was built in the first century. The Arch was moved at the end of the nineteenth century to the place du Clos, newly organized to receive a famous market of early produce. Romans are well known for their beautiful monuments and building that will last forever. Roman Arch is a prove for that statement.

Cavaillon is a great place to rest and visit so many interesting stuff. In the last few years, number of tourists is increasing month after month, especially from the United States and distant parts of the world.
