The Town of Balgonie was first settled in 1876 by Scottish settlers. The town was named after Balgonie Castle in Fife County, Scotland. The town was being considered as the capital of the North West Territories. Balgonie is located 25 kilometers east of Regina on the CPR Mainline which parallels the number one highway.

This is the right place if you want to escape from the everyday city crowd.

Former United Church is one of the oldest remaining buildings in Balgonie. It is a stone structure that was built in 1901 for the community’s Presbyterian congregation. The building was designated a heritage property in 1987. Today it serves as a community museum and heritage centre.

Green Acres Golf Club is a nine whole facility that is located in Balgonie. This club is among the most popular golf clubs in Southern Saskatchewan. This facility, with its nine easy walking but strategically demanding golf holes, suite all skill levels. The course was designed and built by the Kolb family in 1963. Their members are still operating the course today. It lies on level terrain surrounded by grain fields.

This horse show is also known as the "Royal Red". Spectators can enjoy in 147 different classes in youth, western, dressage, hunter and English disciplines.

Balgonie is home to the largest rural high school in the province. It is also a home to the longest running outdoor swimming pool which was opened in the early 1970’s.
